Overview
Brilliant Bites is a blog where I review food locally and nationally; I also share recipes.
The blog was part of a Visual Design class I took. I continued the blog on my own and later redesigned it for a Multimedia Production class diversifying content delivery and changing the design.

Behind the Screen
I had always thought about having a blog but hadn't taken any of my spare time in doing so. Having it as an assignment, however, put me to work. As a foodie, picking the subject of my blog was easy: food reviews.
The Vision
The idea was to make it my own unique version of Yelp. However, I wanted to add a little something to differentiate myself from other food blogs, which is where the recipes come in. I wanted to review food and share my attempts at recreating the food I try (or any recipe I think is cool) so that my audience can do the same.
The Design
Colors: The colors I had for the blog were the original colors from the Wix template (baby pink & blue).

When I redesigned it, I chose red (accent color) and orange for the site and logo.
Logo:

Red: Seen in major food chains and meant to evoke hunger (source).
I decided to go with a darker tone because bright red would be unpleasing for the eye, especially when users will be browsing and reading my blog.
Orange: Energetic and joyful (source)
I decided to go with a lighter tone because I wanted it to be subtle yet still capture the emotions related to orange.
The Development
The blog has 4 main tabs (Home, Bites on the go, Bites at home, About Me/Contact)
Bites on the go: This is where my food reviews are all located, you can browse all of them or you can hover and view the posts by city.
Bites at home: This is where you can find my recipes. Yum!
The Takeaway
This project was my first time creating a website on my own. I discovered my passion for web design and front-end development (and reinforced my love for food while making me hungry most of the time). I also learned that it takes a lot of commitment to continuously update a blog with good content.
The Future
My goal is to continue improving my site by adding more videos and images to the site.
I also want to increase the amount of content I post and create social media accounts (Instagram, Twitter, etc. ) in order to increase my reach and engage with my audience.
